J. Jay Joannides A native Texan, J. Jay Joannides graduated from North Texas University with a degree in Art Education. She taught children's art in New Mexico, Venezuela and Florida. After marrying, J. Jay did medical drawing for her husband, a thoracic surgeon. Some of this work was published in the medical journal, JAMA. Painting wall murals and designing greeting cards were other art-related endeavors before coming to the mountains of North Carolina. In the village of Highlands, Ms. Joannides continues to work in a variety of mediums. She especially enjoys experimenting with the ancient art of encaustic.
