Marilyn Seibring Marilyn Seibring enjoys working in various media including clay, oils, watercolor and mixed media collage. She began oil painting as a hobby when she was a young mother in rural Illinois, but did not pursue any art training until her children were grown and gone. "I have come to the formal study and practice of art late in life," she says. "I often feel there is much to learn and I have barely begun. But like every |
artist - beginner and professional alike - I continue to seek the truth that is mine alone to tell and to befriend whichever medium I choose to tell it." Marilyn is a 1992 graduate of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Florida, with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education. While on campus she exhibited frequently including in the prestigious 1992 Juried Student Art Exhibition and, by special invitation, in the 1993 Ceramic Advanced Student Exhibition. She also received the Design II Student of the Year Award in 1990, and following a staff review of her portfolio, graduated with High Honors. From 1993 to 1996 Marilyn and her husband, Marvin, lived in Kissimmee, Florida, where she was a member of the Osceola Creative Arts League. In 1995 she served as their Exhibition Coordinator. She participated in numerous shows in Kissimmee, receiving awards for painting and sculpture in the 1994 and 1995 Osceola County Fall Juried Art Shows. She also showed her ceramic work in the 1994 and 1995 "Artistic Dimensions" Sculpture Exhibitions. One review described the 1994 show as "comparable to exhibitions in New York." After moving to Franklin, North Carolina in 1996, Marilyn joined the Art League of Highlands. She participated in several member shows from 1996 through 2000, receiving an Honorable Mention for sculpture in the 1996 Fall Juried Show at the Bascom-Louise Gallery in Highlands. She was also a member of the Macon County Art Association and exhibited paintings in Franklin's Uptown Gallery. Collectors in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina have purchased her work. Following two years of employment in the software industry, Marilyn has recently returned to creating and exhibiting. During 2003 she showed works in several Highlands exhibitions including the Bascom-Louise Gallery Juried Exhibition. She has been instrumental in the formation of "Sticking Together," a collaboration of collage artists. Marilyn and her husband continue to reside in Franklin. They have two married children and five grandchildren, in Florida and Massachusetts. |
